Phoenix MarketCity, known for its artful and aesthetic interiors, and one of the city’s greatest supporter of contemporary art, added another large scale sculpture created by T.V Santhosh on Friday. Enhancing and redefining the meaning of art in the city, the mall has continuously patronized artists by providing a space for various sculptures, photographs and video installations to be exhibited through their non-profit initiative, Art C program.
The evening witnessed a gathering of the art lovers and enthusiasts in the city as India’s renowned artist, T.V. Santhosh, inaugurated an unique and first of its kind art installation, ‘The Threshold into a Dream’ at the mall. The sculpture representing the heart of Mumbai city brought out immense curiosity as the visitors gazed at the iconic structure placed at the ground floor.
Accompanied by Mr. Vijay Choraria, Co-Promoter of Phoenix MarketCity Chennai and Mrs. Shalini Sawhney, Director of the Guild Art Gallery, Mumbai, the art piece was inaugurated by T.V Santhosh amidst the art buffs and admirers. The artwork is displayed in Chennai thanks to the generous contribution of The Guild Art Gallery. Following the inauguration, the celebrated artist gave a special talk along with Ms. Preeti Garg, founder of Gallery Veda about the significance behind his one-of-a-kind artwork.
During the talk, T.V. Santhosh spoke on his experience of working with International art galleries, art in post modern period and the current scenario of Indian art. He also spoke about the involvement of technology in art through his use of timers in the sculpture and the challenges involved in doing so. The artist ended his talk by mentioning that India has great artists and academicians who can capture history in the right context through art. Following the talk, the artist opened the floor to questions and spoke on the linguistics behind art and how it has evolved in course of the history. The evening ended on a great note as the audience thanked T.V Santhosh for bringing over the iconic heritage of Victoria Terminus from Mumbai through a beautiful representation of art at Phoenix MarketCity.
