Thiru Manikkam: A Film of Integrity and Humanity

"Thiru Manikkam," directed by Nanda Periyasamy, is a profound movie that emphasizes humanity, honesty, and individual moral values. With an ensemble cast including Samuthirakani, Bharathiraja, Ilavarasu, Thambi Ramaiah, Nassar, Chinni Jayanth, Ananya, Grace Karunas, and others, the film is elevated by Vishal Chandrasekhar’s music and Mynaa Sukumar’s cinematography. Set in Kumily, a Tamil Nadu-Kerala border town, the story revolves around Manikkam (played by Samuthirakani), who runs a small lottery shop to support his family. Married to Ananya, he has two daughters, the youngest of whom has a speech impairment requiring expensive surgery. The family’s struggle for funds leads to a life-altering incident.

Bharathiraja's character, an elder grappling with regret over rejecting a pregnant daughter-in-law due to dowry demands, buys a lottery ticket from Manikkam. Unable to pay for it immediately, he requests Manikkam to hold it for him. Fate intervenes, and the ticket wins a bumper prize of ₹1.5 crores. Samuthirakani, a man of unwavering integrity, sets out to locate Bharathiraja and return the ticket, despite opposition from his wife, relatives, and mounting financial pressures. The movie unfolds as a test of Manikkam’s principles, exploring whether his honesty triumphs in the end.

Samuthirakani delivers a commendable performance, embodying Manikkam's moral strength and love for his family. His nuanced portrayal, particularly in emotionally charged scenes, is praiseworthy. Ananya aptly fits the role of a supportive yet conflicted wife, though at times, her performance leans towards overacting. Bharathiraja shines as a remorseful elder, bringing depth and realism to his character. Supporting actors, including Thambi Ramaiah, Nassar, Karunakaran, Chinni Jayanth, and Vadivukarasi, contribute significantly with their well-etched performances, enriching the narrative.

The film’s technical aspects are a strong suit. Vishal Chandrasekhar’s background score amplifies the emotional weight of the story, while Mynaa Sukumar's cinematography provides visually soothing and immersive storytelling. Director Nanda Periyasamy crafts a gripping narrative that blends emotional depth with a powerful social message: the unwavering importance of honesty, even in the face of adversity. "Thiru Manikkam" stands as a reminder of the values that hold society together, making it a
