Phoenix Movie Review
Phoenix is the debut film of Surya, son of actor Vijay Sethupathi, directed by popular stunt master Analrasu.
Plot Summary: The story follows hero Surya, who brutally kills a ruling party MLA in a public place. Since he's a minor, he's sent to juvenile jail. The deceased MLA's wife Varalakshmi and her associates, furious about the MLA's death, attempt to kill Surya inside the jail itself. The film explores whether Surya escapes from this situation and why he killed the MLA in the first place.
Review: Director Analrasu, being a stunt master, has chosen a story that suits his expertise. All the fight sequences have turned out exceptionally well. Hero Surya has delivered an excellent performance in his very first film. He has put in tremendous effort and acted brilliantly in the action sequences. There's no heroine or romantic angle for him in the film - he has done exactly what the story demanded. The jail fight sequences are designed to give Surya mass appeal.
Technical Aspects: Though the first half consists of just two scenes, it doesn't feel boring. Surya has the right physique for a boxing player character - you can tell he has worked hard for the role. The second half's flashback is acceptable. The director has presented how politicians deceive and exploit poor students' talents in the format of a fast-paced action film.
Performances & Technical Credits: Sam CS's background score is a major strength for the film. The cinematography is also good. Devadarshini, Abi Nakshatra, Sampat, and all other actors in the film have performed well.
Final Verdict: While it's a routine story, it doesn't feel boring. Overall, Surya Sethupathi has made his mark in his very first film itself.
The review essentially praises the debut performance of Vijay Sethupathi's son Surya, highlighting the well-executed action sequences under stunt master Analrasu's direction, while acknowledging that despite being a familiar storyline, the film manages to engage the audience effectively.
