Kannagi is an upcoming film directed by debutant director Yashwant Kishore. The film stars Keerthy Pandian, Ammu Abhirami, Vidya Pradeep, Shalin Zoya, Mailsamy, Vetri, Adesh Sudhakar, Mounika, Yashwant Kishore among others. Shaan Rahman has composed the music for this film. Directed by Yaswant Kishore, this film is focused on women.
The story of the film is about the events that happen in the lives of four women. Ammu Abhirami has been looking for a groom for marriage for a long time. But nothing happened. The reason is that his mother Mounika sends away all the grooms who come for some reason. His father Mylaswamy was a communist. Vidya Pradeep on the other hand is married. Her husband has asked for divorce. But he does not want to divorce. Due to this the case is going on in the court. Keerthy Pandian is pregnant. Since she is not married, she and her boyfriend decide to abort the fetus together and call the hospital. Shalin Zoya does not believe in marriage and lives a life of living together with her boyfriend. What happened next in their lives is the story of Kannagi. Four women and their four stories. Interrelated climaxes. Debut director Yashwant Kishore has created a screenplay based on the four forms of women. He justified it in the first half. Ammu Abhirami, Keerthy Pandian, Vidya Pradeep and Shalin Zoya have given excellent performances. Ammu Abhirami's story is especially interesting. Myalsamy, who plays the father, impresses with his experienced performance. Mounika's natural performance as a mother makes her the face of mother-to-be on screen to both delight and enrage.
Everyone including Kothandam and Vetri who plays the lawyer have done their job well. In the second half, the screenplay is a bit boring. The length of the film could have been reduced a bit. The climax scene in Ammu Abhirami's story is melting. The climax scene of the film is also good. The verses are also wonderful. However, there is no denying that there has been some lack in the second half.
Shaan Rahman's music and songs are okay. The background music is good. Ramji's cinematography has given a difference to each story. Looks great on screen. Editor Sarathkumar may still be using his scissors. On the whole, this film, which has come out as a film for women, could have become a film for men if it had worked a little more.
