Vijay Sethupathi and Yogi Babu's Comedy Partnership Creates Entertainment
A romantic heist story set against the backdrop of Malaysia. The scenes where Vijay Sethupathi and Yogi Babu come together sometimes propel the film forward through sheer laughter.
Whenever Vijay Sethupathi chooses a film, it has a distinctive flavor. Director Aarumukkumar, who previously worked with Sethupathi in the 2018 film 'Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren', has now reunited with him through 'Ace'. This film is different from his recent movies like 'Maharaja' and 'Merry Christmas'.
Plot Summary: Arivu (Yogi Babu) is a ragpicker living in Malaysia. He pretends to be wealthy to impress Kalpana (Divya Pillai). Going to the airport to welcome someone arriving from India, he mistakenly brings back Kannan (Vijay Sethupathi). Without knowing Kannan's background, he gets him a job at Kalpana's restaurant. There, Kannan meets Rukku (Rukmini Vasanth) and falls in love with her. To save her from her cruel stepfather Rajadurai, Kannan suddenly devises a heist plan. Dharma (P.S. Avinash) enters as an obstacle in their path.
Film Highlights: The first half of the film moves slowly. Only in the second half do we see objectionable fight and chase sequences. Yogi Babu's comedy combined with Vijay Sethupathi's natural acting carries the film.
On the technical front, music director Sam CS has strongly supported the film's action through his background score. While cinematographer Karan B Rawat's work is excellent, the editing could have been more polished.
'Ace' is an entertaining but illogical heist film. Its best aspect is the combination of Vijay Sethupathi and Yogi Babu. This is a simple film suitable for the entire family to enjoy during summer vacation.
